2021-2022 1st Grade Supply List
Dear Soon To Be First Grade Parents,
Yes! You are now proud parents of a first grade student. As a team, we would like to welcome you to first grade at Oak Avenue School. To enhance the educational experience for all our students, we are requesting a few supply donations.
Each of the first grade teachers will be hosting a Meet the Teacher and Supply Drop off Party in the classrooms on Sunday, August 15th, 2021 from 2:30-3:30 pm (during the PTA Welcome Back event). If you are unable to come to the supply drop off, please bring these supplies on the first day of school (Wednesday August 18th, 2021).
- Personal headphones,
- 10 count of Thick Crayon Markers
We would also like each child to have a backpack (without wheels) that he/she brings to school everyday to transport school materials to and from home. Unfortunately the wheeled backpacks do not hang on our hooks and add congestion to the hallway.
In addition to supplies needed for the classroom, please help your child get their ready for first grade independence using the following suggestions:
- Backpacks should be large enough to accommodate a folder, lunch box, and jacket
- Reusable water bottles are encouraged with pop-up straw (no removable lid)
- Practice carrying and unpacking their own materials/backpacks each day
- Practice writing first and last name with one capital letter at the start and the remaining letters in lowercase
- Practice correct pencil grip to create good habits.
- Practice names and sounds of all 26 letters (upper and lower)
- Practice counting and recognizing numbers to 20
- Practice numbers patterns, skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s
- Practice tying shoes, buttons, and zippers on clothing independently
